Best Ever Sugar Cookies

3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
9 1/2 oz unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 egg yolks
1 tbsp milk
1 tbsp vanilla paste
1/2 tsp lemon zest
Directions
Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, beat together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and mix well. Add milk, vanilla and lemon zest. Gradually stir in flour mixture until well blended. Refrigerate dough for one hour or up to 3 days.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut desired shapes and place on parchment lined baking sheets. Chill cut cookies for ten minutes before transferring to the preheated oven. Bake for 8 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool completely before icing.
